You know those old samurai movie where at the end the good guy and the bad guy would face off? They would stand still for a long time, then a leaf falls or something and they charge each other, make one slash, and the fight is over.

Some say programming is the same: you plan, plan, and plan some more. When you are happy with your design, you type on the keyboard for as little as possible, and test your new code.

Agile is more like those movies where the good guy gets challenged to a fight and then train just enough to barely win at the end.

And test-driven development is like those movies where the good guy gets his ass kicked, trains, gets his ass kicked a little less, trains more, gets his ass kicked a little less, and repeats until he finally beats the bad guy.
